Paul Curreri - Tue 18th Oct
symptomatic
Paul
Curreri is renowned for his inspired songs, bright voice, and talented
finger style playing. Described by WTJU’s Aer Stephen as “a ruffled
gypsy gutter cowboy, a true life adventurer, a bright new voice”, he has
also been compared to Martin Sexton because of his reputation for
inspired live performances.
Raised
in Richmond, Virginia, Paul now makes his home in Charlottesville with
songwriter/guitarist Devon Sproule and his sixth album, ‘California’,
was released in the UK on Tin Angel Records in 2010.
Recorded after Paul
recovered from a serious throat injury, this pivotal experience
inspired an outpouring of his most meditative and musically diverse
material to date, a record that marries the shambling roots
rock-edginess of previous album ‘Velvet Rut’ with the finger-picked
country blues of earlier efforts like ‘From Long Gones To Hawkesmoth’. It’s a joyous step forward in Curreri’s burgeoning career.
“5
STARS… With his instinctive, sensual gift for melody, Curreri’s songs
are saturated in colour and feeling, the sonic equivalent of William
Eggleston’s photography. Superb.” -Mojo
