Following two packed out London club support show dates in February earlier this year to The Chew Lips (as part of HMV’s ‘Next Big Thing’ Festival) and The Joy Formidable, Australian 4 piece EXPATRIATE will return to the UK this summer to play 2 more London shows; on Friday 25th June as support to Pearl Jam at the Hyde Rock Calling Festival, and at the Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen on Tuesday 29th June, their first UK headline show.
Upon the release of their debut album ‘In The Midst Of This’, EXPATRIATE were nominated for an ARIA Award (Australia’s BRITS) for “Best Breakthrough Artist”. They had strong support from influential national radio station Triple J and were subsequently placed on the front cover of the Australian Rolling Stone being named as “one of the most important new bands of the year”. In Europe the band had support from national radio stations such a SFR/OUI FM in France, 3FM in Holland, Rock Fm, Best Radio and Red Fm (where first single ‘Crazy’ reached #1 in the airplay charts) in Greece, and Virgin Radio (where ‘Crazy’ reached #5 in the airplay chart) in Italy, amongst other support from national print magazines such as Visions and Uncle Sally’s in Germany, Rock &Folk in France, and the NME and Rock Sound in the UK.
Following the bands profile in Australia, they subsequently went on tour with Silverchair, Wolfmother, Powderfinger and The Presets, appearing at The Big Day Out and Splendour In The Grass festivals plus their own sold out Australian national headline tour. Upon their relocation to Berlin in early 2009, the band have toured extensively across Europe, playing at German mega-festivals Rock Am Ring/Rock Im Parc as well as performances at Nova Rock in Austria, Rockwave in Greece, Arras in France, Werchter and Pukkelpop in Belgium, Moon & Stars in Switzerland and Sziget in Hungary. EXPATRIATE’s year was spectacularly rounded off with a 24 date arena tour as support to international rock band Placebo, playing to thousands of people each night and gaining them a strong following in Europe.
The band’s 2nd single ‘The Spaces Between’ will be released on 21st June.
