Adam Taylor’s top 5 picks

06/06/2018

Adam Taylor, our very own Live Music Programmer talks about which bands he loves the most. And the ones you definitely can’t miss this summer.

IDLES are the most important guitar band the UK has produced in the last 10 years. Having toured constantly for the best part of 4 years they are a tour de force of angst and rage and sharp social commentary. Held together with tight Maccabees-esque melodies their live shows are akin to an epiphanic experience. IDLES play Latitude, Bestival, Rebellion Festival, Visions, Electric Fields & End of The Road.

Leader of London’s blossoming Jazz scene and collaborator with Tom Misch and Jordan Rakei, Newham’s Alfa Mist blends neo-soul, hip-hop and with pop sensibilities. Alfa Mist play Love Supreme Jazz Festival.

Relative newcomer Octavian released his first single at the end of 2017. Marrying a variety of genres from Soul, Dancehall, House and Grime but creating a sound that is distinctly London. Octavian plays Latitude Festival.

Nilüfer Yanya’s minimalistic, twisting-guitar driven R&B leaves audiences hanging on every note. Still only 20, she is one of the UK music scene’s brightest prospects. Nilüfer plays Kallida Festival, Bestival, Visions & End Of The Road Festival.

After playing her debut UK show at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen, Sigrid’s popularity has snowballed. Her brand of unashamedly commercial pop has enough originality and to lighten the mood of even the most cynical. Sigrid plays Parklife Festival, TRNSMT Festival, & British Summer Time.
